I haven't seen a person reported hit yet (although I bet it's happened), but there is this guy: http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/20/wiimote-strap-breaks-controller-destroys-tv/ Most of the people blaming him for it say he should have used the wrist strap; as we can see from your link, that isn't enough.
