Yeah, my team doesn't do Windows; in fact a couple of guys threatened
to quit on the spot once when they discussed making us take over some
Windows machines.

However, I just found out from the guys who do that they're using this
hack on production machines that can't be upgraded in time.  (By
"can't" I of course mean "the development organization hasn't the
will".  BYKT.)
