That is pretty much how i was thinking about it.  I keep a high-end graphics
card in my PC to run the hi-res games, which are usually FPS for me.  I have
a Onkyo receiver hooked up to my HD TV and it does "up converting" to 1080i,
so it will be interesting to see how it does.

Now i just have to find one ;-)

The graphics are disappointing for me because I really enjoy high
resolutions and detailed textures. I normally have a pretty modern graphics
card for use on my Windows Gaming PC. And the wii graphics are not nearly as
good as what I see on the PC. However, the wii graphics are not terrible. I
bought the separate component output cable for the wii, which will give you
480p resolution. It is not bad. It is just not as realistic as modern pc
games or the xbox or the PS3. What I plan to do is keeping using my PC for
modern first person shooter style games where I enjoy the high detailed
graphics. And I will use the wii for more family oriented games.
