Instead of being so judgemental, you should spend one Saturday morning with the group that feeds all those "smelly, disease-ridden plague carriers ". Maybe if you met some of them, heard some of their stories of how they have ended up there and can't get back on their feet, then you may see it a little bit differently. Some of those people that are part of the group feedings are NOT homeless. Some of them are people that are so dirt poor they need every little hand out they can get to help them get by or to feed their kids.

You already spend your tax dollars to clean up trash after large sporting events, concerts, etc. when people sit in the parking lots booze it up, make a mess, block traffic, screwing up traffic patterns, and are a general nuisance to people even wanting to drive anywhere near where the event is being held.

Not everyone that is homeless is just a sorry person that is too lazy to work. Some of them are mentally ill -- not just alcoholics and drug addicts. Some of them are true hard luck stories. They want to succeed, but golly gee, you're homeless; and even if you're sleeping in a shelter, good luck finding a job when you only have enough clothes that you can carry in a backpack or a duffel bag. Gotta find a job where you can walk to work because you can't afford bus fare everyday. Yeah, employers are tripping all over themselves wanting to hire someone that stinks because they have to walk to work every morning in temperatures that you sweat just pumping your gas -- or that only has five different things to wear to work and no washer or dryer to clean them. In case you haven't been to a laundromat lately, they charge to use the washers and dryers.

A publicity stunt? Luring people to a public park? No, they were feeding them in an unused lot under the I-4/East West exchange bridge that did not impede traffic. I used to drive through there every day on my way to and from work. Not once was I threatened or felt scared to be there. They had to move to a public park to get around the ordnance.
