Hanging the flag upside down says the country is in distress, not the individual.  That person believes the country is in distress.  If you can burn the flag, then you darn sure should be able to hang it upside down if you want to.  Freedom of speech, baby.  Your island of sheep keeps getting smaller and smaller... ;)
