Ok - this one has me a bit stumped (sort of).
If you guys are tired of hearing me talk about my BSouth DSL, just tell me
and i'll shut up about it ;-)
This one has me curious though....
Ok, here is the deal:
1) Started raining again today and my DSL went out about 10 mins later
2) Ok, well "went out" has a strange definition.........
2a) None of my computers, Linux, Windows, etc could hit the internet
anymore, INCLUDING if i put in an IP address directly (which means not a DNS
problem)
2b) My VOIP kept on working?!! I don't get this at all..... i tried
all sorts of protocols and tools (HTTP, FTP, Ping, etc) from my various
boxes and none of them could connect to the outside world, yet my VOIP kept
working like there was no service interruption at all.
3) Its not a QOS issue with my router... i switched back to my old Router
and it does the same thing: VOIP still works, but none of my computers do
4) HOWEVER, if i unplug my VOIP router and reboot it, it stops working as
well (i.e. it tries to reconnect to my VOIP service - it does get a new IP
with no problem).
This one has me stumped... why would VOIP keep on chugging away (or it seems
an established connection persists), but all other connections die.
I'm thinking this is a Bellsouth routing problem, which hopefully means my
"last mile" is good and hopefully COVAD can give me good service.
