I have done that as well. I had a 486DX66V I upgraded the mobo and
somehow the holes didn't quite fit on a tower so I almost considered
re-drilling the one-off holes but thought better of that and instead got
some plastic anti static bags from work and taped it to the underside of
the board and wired it in place. Still works today. Well ok it's sitting
in the garage but it would boot up (I think).
