I see it as people aren't forced to buy an iPod, or shop iTunes. They
are not locked in to Apple at all after the purchase if they want to use
their iPod on Windows or even Linux. But many do choose to go with the
overall model Apple has set up. My main reason to go with them is that
it all just works, I don't have to poke and jerk it around to get it to
work, it just works.
And if anyone wants to, they can rip the iTunes purchased music to a CD
and use it as they wish anyway. Overall, Apple has the most open model
there is, and the legal music download industry would be pwn3d by M$ if
it wasn't for them and the balancing act they have done with user and
the big labels early on. I'm not sure what more a corp in business to
make money could do.
I for one welcome our DRM, yet open standard supporting overlords.
