Which reminds of one of the many reasons my father (who is a doctor) told
me about the spiraling costs of healthcare in this country. When some
symptom is observed that 99% of the time is nothing to worry about,
everyone still feels the need to CYA just in case. So because of
that 1%, enough tests get ordered to drive cost through the roof, even if
the more sensible solution would be: "Come back and see me in 6 months,
and we'll take another look." Why? Well, if there's even the slightest
chance that a doctor could have done something more, they're exposing
themselves to liability in a suit if something bad does happen.
