You also get the equivalent of "Vista Ultimate Super Duper" and iLife  
(iMovie is worth it's weight in gold).

If it is a laptop:  built in webcam/mike, multi-touch gesture  
trackpad, awesome battery life ($600 whitebox lucky to get 1 real  
hour), and the most important thing to me, it saves you time (time =  
your life).  The last part is hard to grasp, until you spend 4 hours  
futzing with a PC to create a 1 hour home movie, and it takes only 1.2  
hours with a Mac (including record off of tape time).

I've seen the minis refurbed for $419 mabooks as low as $699, the air  
as low as $1k, all cheaper to anything PC out there when you do an  
honest comparison.  Mac Pro's are always pricey, but IMHO if a hi- 
power system is really required, it's still worth it.
